Pure Coffee
Coolest coffee maker. It is only $40 from Chemex, and is actually featured in a collection at the Museum of Modern Art, NY.

Paris meets Los Feliz
Le Figaro Cafe is in Los Feliz, a cute little neighborhood nestled under the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. It is frequented by movie stars and Louis Vuitton, but that is not why I adore it. The food is excellent and affordable, and the decor is fabulously French. The perfect time to go is for brunch during the weekend so you can sip on the snazzy French roast.
By the way, did I mention Madonna's photo shoot for Louis Vuitton took place here AND I sat at that very table once. Madonna O!

Mmmmm Donuts
My new fave sweet is the Naan donut, a Japanese donut filled with red bean or nothing and coted with a fine sugar. Drool

Who said desserts should be eaten last?

Yummy.San Diego is one of my fave cities, not only because it's a hip place to be for a twenty-something-year-old, but because one can indulge in a fancy piece of pie without feeling like a fat ass. As you can see from the pics above and below, these sinfully delicious creations are more like works of art, and it would be a crime not to eat them. Extraordinary Desserts can be found in 2 locations in San Diego, Little Italy and Balboa Park. My fave is in Little Italy because it has a Japanese/modern/chic appeal and it has a large swinging door the size of my office. Hey, appearance is everything and I can definitely say this restaurant has the best of both worlds. The deserts are to die for, and the ambiance is sultry. All the creations at Extraordinary Desserts are made from organic ingredients and decorated with fresh-cut flowers. The chefs are professionals who were trained at Cordon Bleu, and the creator of the establishment traveled around the world in order to gather ideas and exotic foods. The result is an exotic array of culinary art.
The following is a link to the menu. My personal favorites are the vanilla bean creme brulee and this apple empenada thingy that is paired nicely with a hot cup of Chai.

What California is Missing Out on

Pret is all over the UK, all over New York City, and even made the move to D.C. I think they forgot a state! This is what I call the best sandwich, wrap, cookie, yogurt, salad, baguette, juice smoothie, croissant delicatessen that I have been lucky to eat from.
We first met in the fall of 2007, when I was a young school girl frolicking the streets of London in search of food that tasted like food, not food that tasted like cardboard. The dean of the study abroad program recommended the swanky eatery, and much to my surprise, it was good. The decor of the sitting area was Euro-chic, with metal tables and chairs and moody accent lighting. It was simple, grab your food out of the refrigerated shelves, wait in line, and pay.
There is every kind of wrap you could think of, my favorites are the duck wrap and the award winning avocado and herb wrap. Another plus side, all the food is made fresh every day from organic, all natural ingredients. There are no pesticides, steroids, Swine flu, or any other carcinogen on the food. Perfect for those watching their beer bellies and cottage-cheese thighs. Here is the link to the menu: http://www.pret.com/menu/
Someday Los Angeles will be introduced the this new wave of healthy fast food eating, but in the mean time, it does not hurt to take another trip to London.
